I. New Business
A. Letter from Briarly Stock, A.T.
Ms. Stock noted that her license renewal used the abbreviation "A.T." for Athletic Trainer after her name and inquired why the license renewal or any other correspondence from the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners did not use the abbreviation "ATC" after an athletic trainerís name to identify that they are Certified Athletic Trainers.
Ratified by the Board of Medical Examiners 1/8/05 / AT Cmte. 3/28/05
Ms. Manista advised the Committee that the Board of Certification and the National Athletic Trainerís Association are now two separate entities. The Board of Certification permits the use of the abbreviation "ATC" for Certified Athletic Trainers, but the Stateís statutory language of the Athletic Training Committee does not permit that designation on the certificate of registration.
A motion was made by Dr. King and seconded by Ms. Manista to recommend to the Board of Medical Examiners that Ms. Stock be advised that athletic trainers must pass the examination administered by the National Athletic Trainerís Association Board of Certification , Inc. and be certified by that entity in order to apply for licensure in the State of New Jersey pursuant to N.J.S.A. 45:9-37.45(c). It should also be noted that N.J.S.A. 45:9-37.46 only permits the use of the designation "AT" after their name. A vote was taken and the motion carried by a unanimous vote.
A motion was made by Mr. Hyncik and seconded by Dr. King to adjourn the Open Meeting at 11:00 A.M. A vote was taken and the motion carried by a unanimous vote.
